HS2 Phase 1 – Coventry to Leamington Spa Bridge Slide

Our works to support and enable the delivery of the HS2 Phase 1 have reached another new milestone with our completed Coventry to Leamington Spa bridge structure jacked into position.

Galldris have constructed the overbridge near Kenilworth as part of a package of structures in the West Midlands.

The structure will take the existing local railway over the newly planned HS2 mainline and comprises a cast-in-situ concrete box with wing walls on the north side and retaining walls on the south side to support the Network Rail embankment. Weighing 5,600 tonnes, the bridge was built offline on a reinforced concrete guide slab, which enabled it to be stand-jacked into position during a Network Rail blockade.

Contracts Director Richard Watkins commented, “It’s a proud moment to see the bridge successfully moved into position. Our team has worked extremely hard over the last year, overcoming many complexities and challenges to reach this stage. But what’s always impressed me most has been the positive ‘can-do’ attitude of the whole site team working collaboratively to deliver the bridge on time with zero harm.”
